The Centre:
The apostolate of Social Communication was launched by Bishop Thomas Savundranayagam in 1987 and appointed Rev. Fr. P. N. Gnanasekaram as its first Diocesan Director. Later it was continued by Rev. Fr. AntonithasDalima. A new Centre for Social Communication was declared opened by Bishop Rayappu Joseph on the 6th of December 2006 at Pettah in Mannar. Rev. Fr. D. Alexander Silva took charge of the Apostolate.
Later all the ministries those come under this Diocesan commission namely the Diocesan Monthly News Paper, Manna.lk Website, Mannar Catholic Media, Facebook Page, MadhuMatha TV Youtube Channel, Mannar Catholic Press, Library, Museum, Recording Studio and School of Fine arts under Media, Art, Literature and Culture were shifted to a new place in Thalaimannar Road during Rev. Fr. A. Luckston De Silva as the Diocesan Director from 2018. The new permanent centre was blessed and declared opened by his Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Fernando on the 9th of December 2018. For the Diocesan Purpose of monthly News Paper, Valvuthayam Press unit was shifted to the Center as Mannar Catholic Press and it was blessed and launched by very Rev.Fr.VictorSosai, the Vicar General on the 25th of February 2019.
